The name Pro Fit has become synonymous with car radio, car security, air conditioning and numerous other vehicle accessories. From the humble beginnings of an informal information forum, it was recognized that a professionally structured and managed organization had to be formed to cater for the needs of a major industry in South Africa.

The ARDA Pro Fit organization started out in 1966-67 as a platform of information amongst ten, car accessory fitment centres. Six years later, in 1973, a proposal was put forward, that the association be formed into a buying organization. This was unanimous and, the Automobile Radio Dealers Association (ARDA) was formed. The modus operandi of the association was to collate bulk orders from the members and distribute the goods at advantageous prices to them. Within two years the business became too big and led to the birth of ARDA (Pty) Ltd. in 1975.

By 1989, the organization had outgrown itself. The needs of the members were too great to be handled by a part time organization. Out of the demise of ARDA (Pty) Ltd. rose the phoenix of ARDA 1989 (Pty) Ltd.

The move to house the organization in its own premises necessitated the restructuring of management and a full time General manager, Dispatch manager and Financial Controller were appointed. The conception of the Pro Fit logo and group image focused the organization in its goals, to become the facilitator, organizer and co-ordinator in the car radio, alarm, air conditioning and other car accessory related industries.

The national coverage of Pro Fit representation in Gauteng, Kzn, Eastern and the Western Cape attests to the success of this new professionalism.

The support of the major suppliers (i.e. Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, Spal, Dunair, Sanji and Raptor) and major customers ( i.e. Toyota, Volkswagen, Daimler Chrysler, Delta, Ford and Kia) has conferred credibility and authority to the organization.

The ARDA PRO FIT organization is the format for the future of all involved in car radio, car security and air conditioning businesses. This stable, professional and dynamic organization has been able to organize the industry to the benefit of its shareholders and its associated members.
